Message from Board Chair Sue Anderson

“I have hope that we will all continue to do what we can, whether that is giving to organizations on the front lines or our own COVID-19 Response Fund Boulder County, volunteering your time when you can, or simply being kind. All of that matters, and all of that is important.”

Dear Friends,

As I begin my term as Chair of Community Foundation Boulder County’s board, I am struck with how much has changed since I first agreed to do this. It’s a new world, and I am honored to serve. As in past crises, the foundation has quickly mobilized, and we are getting resources to the communities where they are most needed – basic needs services to people already most impacted by inequity, let alone most vulnerable to a serious health crisis.

The things I’m thinking a lot about are concern, gratitude, and hope. I worry about those who are most impacted and are struggling with basic needs as a result of this pandemic. The need is overwhelming and likely to get worse. I’m concerned about what things will look like when we come into a new phase of this world, not only for individuals but for our small businesses and our non-profit sector. And of course, I have concern for everyone who has been infected and for their long-term recovery.

Beyond the concerns though, I have a lot of gratitude. I’m so grateful for the generosity of our community stepping up, and, for having a strong community. I’m grateful for resources and leaders here and around the state who believe in science, provide us with good information, and take measures that are protecting us all. I’m so grateful for the organizations on the front lines of this crisis. Thank you.

Then there is hope. Hope for the future to rebuild some different and more equitable systems and ways of being in our community. Hope that we learn about our place on the planet. Hope that we can do better in the future to be ready, adaptable, and to ensure resilience for all. I have hope that we will all continue to do what we can, whether that is giving to organizations on the front lines or our own COVID-19 Response Fund Boulder County, volunteering your time when you can, or simply being kind. All of that matters, and all of that is important.

Stay safe and well,
Sue Anderson, Board Chair
