Message from Tatiana Hernandez, CEO

“Once again, in a moment of crisis, this community rallied. Volunteers and donors leapt into action. Many of you are hosting evacuated friends, sheltering animals, gathering supplies, feeding our firefighters, or donating money – THANK YOU.”

Dear Friends,

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by October’s wildfires, whether in Boulder County or in our neighboring counties. These fires ignited during an already fraught year, one where many have been stretched to the brink – economically, emotionally, and socially. Our most basic need – that of safety – is being tested. If you need help, please seek it, as there are many in our community who will help hold you up. You are not alone.

Your Community Foundation continues to work with Boulder County and the many nonprofit organizations that responded to the Cal-Wood and Lefthand Canyon fires. We are also working with community foundations and United Ways in nearby communities to coordinate a broader response. Once again, in a moment of crisis, this community rallied. Volunteers and donors leapt into action. Many of you are hosting evacuated friends, sheltering animals, gathering supplies, feeding our firefighters, or donating money – THANK YOU.

Last Saturday, I was fortunate to participate in OUT Boulder County’s annual GAYLA. Things were different this year, of course, but it was heartwarming to see so many beautiful faces (via Zoom) gathered in joy and celebration. Our partnership with OUT Boulder County allowed for some of the evening’s proceeds to support the Community Foundation’s Open Door Fund, which exists to enhance the lives of LGBTQ+ people in our county. The evening was yet another reminder that our community shows up for one another.

The weeks ahead may add additional stress, as we await the results of our national elections. Regardless of the outcome, what remains true is the importance of local action. I encourage you to have faith in your neighbors. If there is one thing we have learned during this challenging year, it’s that we’re here to support one another. We’re in this together, and we belong to each other.

Warmly,
Tatiana Hernandez, CEO
