For Bob Morehouse, creating a legacy with the Community Foundation is a no-brainer.

“I’ve lived in Boulder County half my life, and I love it here,” says the founder and CEO of Vermilion Design + Digital, and a longtime supporter, partner and former trustee of the foundation. “That’s why I want to give back to our community, and I see the Community Foundation as the best way to do that.

“The foundation keeps an eye on trends in our community, and shines a light on areas that need attention – and then works with others to address the gaps. It’s the hub of our flourishing, nonprofit community.”

Bob also cites the foundation’s flexible, customizable giving opportunities. “The Community Foundation allows you to focus on specific causes that are most meaningful to you,” he says. “For example, part of my bequest is designated to the Open Door Fund in support of our LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning] community. A part of my bequest is also designated to the Community Trust, which is a more general fund that allows the foundation to respond to our county’s greatest needs across a range of issues.

“The Community Trust, in particular, sets the foundation apart, allowing us to accomplish more together than any of us can do alone.”

Additionally, Bob values the foundation’s commitment to inclusivity. “The board and staff understand that our diversity is what many of us love about Boulder County. And they take the lead to support and sustain the rich essence of our community, and everyone who lives here.”

According to Bob, planned giving is perhaps particularly relevant these days. “We’re in an era where giving locally feels more important than ever. To keep my own personal values intact, I support programs and initiatives that are critical to the kind of community we’re building here. And the Community Foundation is right at the center of that activity.”

He adds, “One of the beauties of an endowed fund, like the Open Door Fund, is that – while we don’t know what challenges we’ll face in the future – we can help prepare for them. When you look at some of the gains we’ve made in extending rights, and when we realize how fragile those gains can be, it’s really important to look ahead and mobilize resources to meet future needs.

“To that end, the foundation’s Legacy Society is really the engine that propels our community forward.”
