This is the case with Youth@Heart, which will be coming to Boulder County in November. Read on for more details.
In celebration of its 30th Anniversary, Special Transit, a private nonprofit that provides transportation and mobility options for older adults and people with disabilities in Boulder County, is planning a public concert featuring Young@Heart, a New England-based chorus of older adults that has toured internationally performing songs by everyone from James Brown to the Clash. With an average age of 80, the 25-member chorus comprises an eclectic and endearing bunch of oldsters with a zest for life and enthusiasm for music. They also inspire with their upbeat attitudes and willingness to embrace the new and unfamiliar. The group was featured in a documentary film released in the spring of 2008 to rave reviews; a “darling” at Sundance the film was also short-listed in the documentary category of the 2008 Oscars.
Special Transit is seeking support to underwrite the expenses of bringing the chorus to Boulder County through a “Sponsor a Chorus Member” program. A $1,000 contribution will help cover the costs of a chorus member’s performance fee, airfare, and food and lodging for two nights. Benefits of the sponsorship include two tickets to the concert as well as a private reception to meet members of the Chorus. The concert is tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2009.
