The ongoing health crisis has created an equally debilitating economic crisis. The economic stressors on Boulder County farmers are significant, with limited access to their customers and markets. Helping sustain our local food producers through this crisis is a powerful way to support our whole community. The best way to support the farmers has always been to spend your produce and meat budget at local farms. Now more than ever, this local support and focus is critical. You can help best by going to local farm stands or joining CSAs before going to the grocery.
Boulder County Farmers Markets (BCFM) has made this very easy by creating a “Find Your Farmer” list that features the offerings of almost 30 of their member farms. The “Find Your Farmer” list is constantly updated and only includes farms that are ready to sell produce right now, through farm stands, retail stores, and online ordering.
BCFM has debuted a robust virtual market with online ordering. The market features curbside pickup in Boulder, Denver, Longmont and Lafayette. Longmont pickup at Boulder County Fairgrounds is on Saturdays starting April 25 (check the BCFM website to see if ordering is available the week prior). Curbside service at the BCFM other locations (Boulder, Union Station, and Lafayette) will be available in the following weeks.
BCFM has been hosting a weekly distribution of 1K food access bags of fruit and vegetables, to people who receive WIC, SNAP, and Fruit and Veg Boulder benefits. Families that qualify can complete an order form on the BCFM website.
