About the Boulder County Crisis Fund
On March 22, 2021, a mass shooting took place at the King Soopers supermarket on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, Colorado. Ten community members were killed, and more than 300 other customers, employees, first responders, and community members in the area were directly affected. A shockwave of pain, loss, and grief was felt throughout the Boulder community.
The following morning, Community Foundation Boulder County launched the Boulder County Crisis Fund, and our community came together to raise over $1.75 million from more than 9,000 donors. In the weeks, months, and years that followed, the foundation worked with local entities to provide financial assistance, fund direct services, and support the needs of victims’ families, those directly affected, and the broader Boulder community.
These efforts were made in partnership with the Colorado Healing Fund, the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance (COVA), and other valued partners committed to helping our community heal. The final distributions from the Boulder County Crisis Fund were made in December of 2025.

To respond effectively and holistically to this crisis, priority was given to the following three circles of proximity:

Community Foundation Boulder County worked closely with and provided funding to the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance (COVA) to meet the needs of victims’ families via direct support to individuals.
Circle 2 | Those directly affected
Community Foundation Boulder County worked closely with and provided funding to the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance to meet the needs of those directly affected by the shooting (defined based on needs assessed by COVA and based on the charges filed by the Boulder District Attorney’s Office) via direct support to individuals. Funds granted through the Boulder County Crisis Fund also supported organizations providing direct services to those directly affected.
Circle 3 | Broader community
Recognizing the ripples of pain and uncertainty throughout the Boulder community in the wake of this mass shooting, Community Foundation Boulder County supported broad healing efforts via grants and open funding opportunities primarily to and for local nonprofits and government entities.
