Dear TRENDS Diary,
Like all of Boulder’s yoga studios, Radiance Power Yoga shut down all in-studio classes in mid-March. Yoga teachers generally don’t make much and a few of the studio’s teachers were living paycheck to paycheck, so this got scary for them quickly.
Shortly after the shut-down, Radiance owner Scott Rodwin sent his 20 teachers an email to check-in with his team and to let them know their paychecks were at the studio. One teacher wrote back that she wanted to donate her last paycheck to any of her fellow teachers that were in financial straits.
Scott was touched by her generosity and courage, and offered to match her and anyone’s donation to a teacher emergency relief fund.
Over the course of the next three days, one teacher after the next offered the same gift. Ultimately 16 teachers, many of whom are unable to earn a living right now themselves, donated their final paycheck.
The resulting fund was distributed to a few teachers who were in desperate financial need, helping them to keep a roof over their head for another month.
The studio now offers one live-stream class a day via their website, with plans to add more in the near future.
