Dear TRENDS Diary,
The bunnies have begun to pop up in downtown Boulder. Not the real ones — although those are there, too. These are part of a public art project that launched on Earth Day, organized by Creative Catalyzers, a group of leaders from art, tech, sustainable/eco companies and social services who want to foster more art in Boulder County. We’re also interested in doing art projects with recycled materials and advocating for being more conscious of the environment.
The Rabbit art challenge came together during the first two weeks of lockdown. It was Peter Vitale’s idea to do a public art project so that when people are walking their dogs or going to the grocery store, they serendipitously see rabbits. The goal was to make people smile and bring positivity during this difficult time.
All 30 rabbit art works should be up by the end of May. They’re being installed in the alleyways and inconspicuous areas around downtown, between Spruce and Walnut and 9th to 20th.
We’re not publishing a map or locator because it will be nice for people to run into them by surprise. It’s that kind of serendipity that we are driving for.
We hope the project can have some longevity, to become an open air gallery and have the theme change every six months or yearly. We chose rabbits because of spring, as a reminder that life works in cycles. Nature takes its course, disaster and prosperity.
